Dr. Lin: 4/21/2002> It is due to the weakened parasympathetic nervous control or the excessive sympathetic nervous action in the prostate. When urinating, the ejaculate duct and emission valve is supposed to be shut by the the parasympathetic nerves. When the resting potential (DC voltage) in the parasympathetic nerves is too low to keep the prostate's emission valve closed, the seminal emission occurs when there are action potential pulses (DC + AC disturbances) in the parasympathetic or sympathetic nerves in the bladder, prostate or urethra will trigger seminal emission (leakage). Urinating is driven by the parasympathetic nervous functions that is purely reflex in infants but is under voluntary regulation (somatic action) in normal adults. The S1-2 nerves are responsible for the prostate urinary/seminal release-valve switching control, keep the emission shut and mediate the urinary continence if there is sufficient DC potential in the nerves. If the parasympathetic nervous control loses to the action potentials (the sympathetic fire) generated by the sympathetic nervous circuits of T10-L2 due to stress, panic, anxiety, or orgasm (sexual stress!), the seminal emission valve is opened. If this happens in the urinary control, this problem is called urinary incontinence. When your parasympathetic DC potential is too low, your urinary and seminal emission valves can open simultaneously, even without the sympathetic fire.
