Basically, after you retire your testicles, you have to rely on testosterone injection.
But, testosterone injection may just create a testosterone spike in your bloodstream for few hours after injection.
Once the testosterone spike shows up, your liver starts to produce a lot of aromatase (or 5-alpha reductase) to convert it into estradiol (or DHT)or expel it through the urine without metabolizing. For this reason, your homestasis of testosterone is low.
You should ask your doctor to monitor your testosterone and estrogen in the bloodstream and urine within 12 hours after injection.
The homeostasis of testosterone requires a support of the active testicular and adrenal functions, which should be backed up by the brain's acetylcholine/parasympathetic and dopamine nervous functions.
After you retire your testicular function, the testosterone homestasis shift to a low gear, almost 100% depending on the adrenal function.
A lower testosterone homestasis causes feminization, such as penile shrinkage and breast enlargement, for men.
I beleive that beard growth is associated with testosterone, but more on the growth of the testosterone receptors.
During the puberty, boys start to have beard due to the testosterone biological action while girls don't.
It establishs the homestasis balance between the testosterone level and the density of the testosterone receptors in certain parts of the body.
When testosterone drops as we grow older, the density of the testosterone receptors should gradually increases in an attempt to main a constant level of testoterone at certain parts of the body, unless the hormonal receptors have been burned by excessive DHT or estradiol trapped locally.
That is, when men become older, the beard generally grows faster as the declination of testosterone.
