I have a theory that the T/DHT receptors never die but are used for repair after a genetically predetermened size is reached after puberty. I have read a few studies that support this theory and I was wondering if you thought the same way? DHT is the hormone that drives the penile spongy tissue (sinusoids) to grow, to repair and to erect, where penile repairing and growing requires a good penile blood circulation and human Growth Hormone (hGH).
The main penile growth season is the puberty when DHT and hGH reach the peak of the male life.

the results inthat article prove that the DHT/5-alpha reductase inhibitor (finasteride) will eventually thin the tunica albuginea and depress sinusoids if you take it for a long time, although the structure of the sinusoids can be temporarily retained.
This can explain why the hair-regrowth drug causes penile shrinkage in a long-term use.

The most important issue in that study is the role of DHT and hGH in growing the elastic spongy tissue during puberty.
What I am interested is that the castrated rate's penis is filled with the collagenous fibers like the regular muscle, instead of erectile spongy tissue. This can also serves as a warning for the men who use penile exercises ( stretching/jelqing/milking) to tear down the spongy tissue into scar that will be eventually degenerated into collagenous fibers. This also implies that teenager boys with a deficiency of testosterone and 5-alpha reductase (thus, deficiency of DHT) will have an underdeveloped penis! How about girls?
