I just got off of my period a little over a week ago and took the morning after pill. About 2 days after taking the pill, I experienced brown discharge and a couple of hours later period like bleeding which has lasted a few days. The bleeding has almost stopped but i still have some brown, moucus like discharge. Is this a result of the morning after pill? Is it possible that the bleeding and discharge is an early sign of pregnancy? I am very frantic. Please help!

The morning-after pill, actually, is a high dosage of the birth control pill. It is used for preventing or ending pregnancy over a period of 72 hours after sexual intercourse. The pill can be packed with an extremely igh dose of progestine (artificial progesterone) alone, artificial estrogen alone, or both of these artificial steroids together. The reason for the drug companies to use the artificial steroids instead of the natural ones is simply because they can not patent the natural steroids which molecules are identical to what your body produces.
The purpose of the pill works in 3 ways -
1. to inhibit Ovulation, meaning to prevent the egg from being released;
2. to alternate the normal menstrual cycle for delaying ovulation; or
3. to irritate the lining of the uterus to prevent implanting, so that if the first and second actions fail, the fertilized egg will be unable to implant in the lining of the uterus.

The heavy vaginal discharge is to due to an over-stimulation of the cervix by the mega dose of progesterone (progestin). The bleeding is due to an irritation of the uterine lining. When the large scale of bleeding stops, there is very little, unsensible bleeding discharged to the vagina where the blood is oxidized and mixed with the cervix mucus (normally assumed to be white) to likely produce a brown vaginal discharge, if there is no yeast or STD involved.
