![]() Reader: 10/05/2003> Hello. I'm a 26 year old male with a problem; 8 years ago, at the age of 18, I was diagnosed with Peyronies disease by a urologist. I had gone in to see my doctor because I'd read an article about penile curvature and suddenly came to the realization that my natural curvature to the left that had always been there may have been Peyronies. Sure enough, he diagnosed me with that disease and scheduled an appointment with a urologist. The urologist was concerned about the curvature but was a little evasive when I asked him questions about the nature of Peyronies. He explained all the surgical options, but none of the risks. He also said nothing about it being a congenital curvature and I being to naive to question his judgment, went along with his recommendation to have surgery. Afterward, recovery was very painful but I healed okay, however the curvature was never fixed. I was exactly the same. During a follow up exam, the urologist told me that he had found no Peyronies scar tissue, that Peyronies is the result of a severe and painful injury. If I'd done something to give myself Peyronies, I would have been in a lot of pain. I know this now after doing further research on my own. But this doctor had performed surgery anyway. He had known that I had no Peyronies disease and instead tried to repair a congenital form of curvature by "shortening" the healthy right side. He failed anyway. I told him this and he had said he'd tried stitching the right side to pull the left side over but since it didn't work, my erection must have broken the stitches. For the next few months I experienced few side effects. My penis took time to gain strength but it did, but I noticed that I would leak a little after masturbation, something that never happened before but I didn't see any concern. I could easily maintain erections and my morning erections were fine. Distressed about the failure of the surgery, I decided to see another urologist. I told my family doctor about what had happened and he recommended me to a different specialist. The new urologist confirmed that there was no way I could have had Peyronies and said that surgery done to attempt to correct a congenital curvature is risky since it can lead to complications like venous leakage. I was never told of this complication by the first urologist who performed my surgery. I was angry but considered myself lucky to have no signs of complications and finally accepted the fact that my penis is just has a natural curvature, a fact I wish I could have just accepted before rushing into a surgery with a doctor that only seemed too eager to do perform an operation. Well, flash forward 8 years and I believe that surgery is coming back to haunt me. I am not currently sexually active but I do masturbate a few times per week. About one month ago I noticed a pain in the right side of my penis, the side that was supposedly stitched, while masturbating. It was a kind of twinge that subsided into a dull ache. Concerned, I stopped masturbating for a while and the ache went away after a couple of days. Now, my erection is not very strong. The ache returns if I try to masturbate and my morning erections are soft. Basically, I'm concerned that there may now be some venous leakage caused by a tearing of some of those old stitches. Is this possible? The ache that I'm experiencing; will it go away? Is this something that can heal on its own in time? There is very little information about venous leakage or on post-operative complications so I have very little to work with. I don't want to be negative and assume the worst, but the mild pain is a cause of concern. I want to know what I can do to alleviate that and if I have venous leakage or some other kind of structural problem, heal that also. I'm planning to see a urologist but I'm not sure what my options will be as I have no insurance currently. I'm still a student and I'm looking into a university run health insurance plan. I hope that will make it affordable for me to get the most thorough diagnosis. Until then, I'm looking for advice on things I can do now and sources where I can find more information. Please help me. Dr. Lin: 10/05/2003> I am afraid that your penis penile pain is due to the nervous damage or compression in the surgery scar which usually block the blood circulation to the damage nerve and also compress the nerve. It is not a good idea to replace the delicate spongy tissue by the scar and to cut the nerve. |
