I am a young doctor who has just begun attending the surgical specialty. I have been suffering from OCD for 4 years, and since 2001 I have taken quite a
high dose of medication for these (40mg fluoxetine per day). My problem is that for the last year I am experiencing a gradual decline in sexual drive and
a gradually increasing erectile dysfunction. It has come to a point that during
foreplay I cannot achieve a firm erection (and sometimes I cannot achieve any erection) and this gives me tremendous frustration and further worsens the problem. Before this last year of decline, I could very easily achieve strong
erections, even unwanted ones! I have made some blood tests. My FSH, LH, prolactine and free testosterone levels were normal, but my total testosterone
was somewhat low (380). Another point is that during the last few months I have
been experiencing a worsening of my OCD, in the form that I am being plagued by
thoughts of contamination from bodily secretions and excretions (urine, feces,
semen and vaginal secretions), which seems to make the situation even worse,
since it fills me with anxiety when it comes to the point where I must touch the pubic area. I should mention that I do not masturbate.
I would like to ask you for any suggestions regarding my problem. I will stop
taking the SSRI but I would like to know how much will it take for my erectile
function and sexual drive to be restored. Also, should I take any medical supplement? Please help me because I am really frustrated!
