Solution for PreMenstrual Syndromes and Menstrual Pains / Cramps (dysmenorrhea)

Hello Dr Lin,

I am writing on behalf of my wife Jenny, 34 years of age, who has had strong period cramps ever since her period has started at around age 14. We both live in Brisbane, Australia. Her period comes mostly regularly, every 26 days. Sometimes a day or two earlier, and very very rarely longer than 28 days (probably 3 times that I can remember and I have known her since 18 she was years old).

Once her period has started, as evidenced by a menstrual blood flow that usually come first thing in the morning, she has to take a period pain medication such as Naprogesic immediately. If she fails to do this then within 30 minutes of waking up she gets very strong cramps and within minutes after has massive pain from these cramps. If she does not take the pain medication immediately on waking up, the pain gets very strong within minutes, and once that happens tablets take up to three hours to work. Now, even if she does take the tablets on time, she still has to spend the next two days in bed without much movement, as any movement brings on the pain.

I am writing you because the period cramps are a very big part of her life and something that she and I would like to take control of without the use of drugs such as described above. Losing at least two days every 26 due to period pain is very unfortunate and really interrupts our life, holidays, work, etc.

Jenny also has very strong mood swings just a few days before and after her period.
