Dear Dr. Lin,

I recently discovered that I have a problem with over-masturbation and pot addiction. I have been active daily since I was able to (around 12) with masturbation. My problems worsen when I got my own room in college my junior year (20 years old). The last two years I have been masturbating on average of 1.5 times a day. This is also when I have started my heavy pot addiction. Although I cut down my marijuana intake heavily in the summer, I would estimate that I had solid year of pot smoking several times daily within that two year timeframe. Also during this timeframe my confidence and social skills took a turn for the worse. I experienced uncharacteristic anxiety problems around new people. Also my grades suffered (from B to C- average) and I felt I had learning problems. If I tried to masturbate twice a day I could notice that I was having a hard time maintaing a full erection during the end of my addction timeframe. I had to get help so I found out that I did indeed have a!
problem via the internet. Two months ago I experienced a complete turnaround curbing my addictions. I was naive to think that masturbation would have such an effect on a person. I have been masturbating only once a week and I am gaining more willpower for better goals. I am gaining confidence and feel much more manly. I can feel the testosterone increase. I have not been with a girl since my turnaround but I fear for the worst.
