Reader: 6/14/2000> I've got a buddy that says he had some very rough all night (11:00pm-7:00am) sex about 4 days ago. He says ever since, he's had this very abnormally sized vein pop out of the side of his penis (4 days straight!) He's wondering if it will go away or if maybe he should see a doctor. What do you think is going on with this? Dr. Lin: 6/15/2000> This problem may be caused by an abuse of the erectile drug (Vi?g?a) by young men, without replenishing HGH, DHEA, testosterone and estrogen to increase the elasticity and flexibility of the penile tissues, veins, and blood-vessel valves in the penile arterial and veins. The erectile drug blocks the destruction of the arterial dilator cGMP (cycle Guanosine MonoPhosphate) by deactivating the cGMP-destruction enzyme PhosphoDiestErase Type 5 (PDE-5). Since normal young people with sufficient arginine (amino acid), testosterone, and 5-alpha reductase can continuously produce the Nitric Oxide (the precursor of cGMP and the short-lived erectile neurotransmitter) and cGMP during sexual stimulation, cGMP becomes over-concentrated in the penile smooth muscle cells before testosterone production slowing down, leading to the over-inflation of the penile tissues and over-dilation of arteries and veins over a long-period of time. The sustaining erection for a long-period of time from several hours to several days is called Priapism The main problem of Priapism is that the blood in the penile cylinders becomes stagnant, acidifies, and loses oxygen, nutrition, enzymes and hormones. Without oxygen and hormones, the blood vessels/valves and tissues lose their elasticity and flexibility under an expansive tension force. It is like storing a overstretched rubber in a freezer for several hours. Once the damage is done, the flexibility and elasticity of the tissues, blood vessels and valves are destroyed. This results in permanent impotency. No body can save the penis. |
