Reader: 8/7/2000> My wife and I can only have intercourse in the standard mitionary style. Any other position, her on top, sitting, from behind, on her side, backwards,etc... she claims there is pain and cannot even get started, like there is a door at the opening. And if it is medical, can it be corrected with surgery? Dr. Lin: 8/8/2000> She has a prolapsed or prolapsing uterus. She can get a check up to verify what I said. This is very common for women after age 30-35, and the uterine prolapsing become severe after midlife. Her vagina becomes shorter. The "door" at the opening is her cervix. The intercourse pain is a result of hitting her cervix.
