I have severe pain with deep penetration. Our therapist told us about a "doughnut" that my husband can wear during intercourse that would prevent him from pushing too far in. Do you have any idea what I am refering to and do you know where I might get one? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Dr. Lin: 03/16/2003> The general factor causes the deep penetration pain:
1. The vaginal/urethral/cervical/uterine tissues lack of the Prostaglandin E-1 (PGE-1) synthesis due to a lack of androstendione in the tisuses and acetylcholine/NO (nitric oxide) in the neuro-muscular ending and arteris oin the tissues.
2. The progesterone or/and estrogen domination (due to ovarian malfunction or birth control chemicals) that block the PGE-1 sysnthesis in the vaginal/urethral spongy tissues,
3. The uterus/cervical dropping (prolapsing) or rotating (titling) in response to the level of PGE-1 (the androtenedione/testosterone/acetylcholine/NO level) in the weakening utreine-support ligaments and muscles.
4. An excessive stress neurohomrone level causes the constriction of the vaginal arteries, where the poor vaginal blood circulation delivers insufficient hormones (hGH/DHEA/androstendione/testosterone) and neuro-chemicals to in the tissues and nerves for the PGE-1 synthesis,
5. A lack of the PGE-1 in the vaginal/urethral spongy tissues inhibit the tissues erection and degrade the intergrity the tissues, nerves and neuro-muscular endings, leading to the abrasion (frictional) of the tissues and nerves and the pains or cramps due to compression, expansion, stretching or twisting of the nerves.

The deep penetration pain is very common for the women after 30-35, whose ovaries produces less and less androtenedione and/or whose uterus/cervix start to drop down (prolapse!) or rotate due to a lack of the tissues-/nerve- relaxation and elasetic hormone Prostagladin E-1 (PGE-1). Note that the prolpasing or rotating (tlting) of the uterus/cervix can cause a lot of deep penetration pain for peri-menopause and menopause women, since it shortens the vaginal length and changes the tissue/nerve orientation of the vaginal/cervix transition zone.
Birth control bills/injection/implants which shut down the ovarian function can casue the deficiency of androstendione and the domination of progetserone (for vaginal dryness) or estrogen (for excessive vaginal wetness), leading to the intercourse/penetration pains or cramps and the tissue and nerve abrasion from the labia minors and vaginal orifice to the deep vaginal canal endings and cervix.

Vaginal lubricants or moisturization creams or lotions or any physical devices can not solve the penetration/intercourse pains or cramps induced the factors listed above..
